Projects For Each Dumpster Size

If you’re thinking about renting a dumpster, you might not know what size you’ll need. That’s what we are here for. We’re all about helping you understand the different dumpster sizes and what they are most commonly used for. Here are some common projects that are tackled with each of the common sizes of roll-off dumpsters. Read along to find out which size most closely aligns with the project you have in mind.

10 Yard Dumpster

This size will hold 10 cubic yards of debris. For comparison, that could fill the back of a pick-up truck about three times. This is the smallest size that most rental companies will offer with a roll-off dumpster. It is perfect for smaller projects or for those who don’t have a lot of space to place a dumpster, because this baby measures in at only about 10 feet long. Perfect uses could include small home DIY projects. Maybe you are re-doing a small bathroom or building, re-carpeting, or replacing kitchen flooring. They are also great for cleanouts of a garage or attic. When it is time for spring cleaning of the basement, the 10-yarder is your dumpster. If you’re cleaning out the garage so you can finally fit your car inside, this could be the perfect size for you.

20 Yard Dumpster

This size will hold 20 cubic yards of debris. For comparison, that could fill the back of a pick-up truck about six times. It is great for larger sized DIY projects, home remodeling projects, or large home cleanouts. This is the most popular size mainly due to its versatility. If you’re planning to clean out multiple large cluttered rooms (or maybe even the whole house) it is probably better to go with the 20-yarder over the 10, because of the additional volume and ability to hold bulky items. If you are doing a kitchen remodel, this is a great option. Make sure to check with your rental company about what to do with appliances you want to dispose of. If you are doing renovations on parts of your home or business, this is the best option for you.

30 Yard Dumpster

This size will hold 30 cubic yards of debris. For comparison, that could fill the back of a pick-up truck about nine times. This size is perfect for construction or demolition projects. The length and width dimensions are similar to that of the smaller 20-yarder, but the side walls are higher to help accompany larger and bulky items. If you are planning to do major construction or demolition, this will likely be your best fit. Maybe you are planning to remodel your business, or do construction throughout multiple rooms of your house. This is for those who need a little more room than the “average” roll off dumpster, but don’t need the oversized volume of the 40-yarder.

40 Yard Dumpster

This size will hold 40 cubic yards of debris and is the largest roll-off size available for rent. For comparison, that could fill the back of a pick-up truck about twelve times. The 40-yarder is perfect for just about any large construction, demolition, or remodeling project. If you are building an addition to your home, this is the one for you. If you are doing a large project that will be producing a large amount of debris, such as a demolition, the 40-yarder will ensure you have enough space for everything you are trying to dispose of. If you know you’re going to have a lot to get rid of, the 40-yarder offers you the most volume.
